Interview with My Sweet Torment

My Sweet Torment

Sanaz: The band started off with only  John and Sef-eldin as just a fun thing to do in 2002. How did you guys grow from that point on and what made you realize you want to take it to the next level?

My Sweet Torment: Everytime we were playing and we felt that it sounded good, and everytime we got more ideas, skills and enthusiasm, then it was the time that we realized that we could reach the next level.

Sanaz: You guys have a very dark and beautiful sound to me, how did you guys develope the sound of the band and perfect it?

My Sweet Torment: First, we try to convey our feelings through our music, mixing it with orquestrations until we get the sound we are looking for. And finally, while we are listening to the music we can imagine the song´s lyrics.

Sanaz: What kind of story does your latest album "SEVEN" tell us?

My Sweet Torment: Our last released called “Seven” is a conceptual cd. It tells the whole story of a girl who committs the Seven Deadly Sins. The idea is to make a series of cds, with different stories all linked together.

Sanaz: What was the process of making the new album and how did it start?

My Sweet Torment: Due to personal and working reasons, the band took a break two years ago. Then, Sef began to have some ideas and he recorded them at home. As he improved on what was recorded, he began calling the other bands members to finish it together. Little by little, the story and lyrics were embedded and finally Almudena gave the finishing touches on keyboards and voice recording.

Sanaz: Why this new stage production after 3 discs?

My Sweet Torment: The stage production is the personal touch we are looking for on stage. We do not want to limit our shows only to our music, we want to transmit the story that “Seven” tells.

Sanaz: How is the Metal scene like in Sopelana Spain and what are your favorite clubs to play at there?

My Sweet Torment: Here in Sopelana there are many metal bands, as well as in Spain; that there are many more. But, there´re not so many places where to play shows. Therefore, we usually try to play out of Sopelana.

Sanaz: What were your influences when you first started the band and has that changed as you guys grew and changed your sound?

My Sweet Torment:We still have the same influences but as the band skills have improved our compositions are more complicated. In this way, My Sweet Torment has matured to the sound of “Seven”.

Sanaz: What are your plans and goals for 2011?

My Sweet Torment: Our objective is to play all the shows we can in different places. So far, we have confirmed a special party about our last album “Seven” on February the 12th at the Iron Fist Pub in Bilbao and a show on February the 19th at Bilborock´s concert hall. And maybe in summer we ´ll begin to record new songs for the next album.

Sanaz: Where do you see the band in the next few years?

My Sweet Torment: Nobody can predict the future, we will not know if we will be giving concerts in small pubs or at recognised festivals, though we would like to. The only sure thing is that My Sweet Torment will continue on working with the same enthusiasm and illusion.

Sanaz: How do you feel about the Metal Industry these days and is there any changes you would like to see as a hard working band?

My Sweet Torment: Unfortunately, either in the metal or in any other music style, the general problem is the same: the money. There are many talented musicians that are still unknown for economic reasons. We think that any band deserves a chance to make themselves known and to go ahead.

Sanaz: Where can your fans buy your albums? And what should they expect from each one?

My Sweet Torment: We are very thankful that people like to listen to our music. They can buy our cd´s and merch through our website (www.mysweettorment.com) or in stores like Gothic Zone in Bilbao.

Thank you so much for keeping the world beautiful and dark

Sanaz
