Interview with Darklight Corporation

I am proud to be interveiwing Darklight Corporation today ...

Sanaz: When was Darklight Corporation formed and how did you guys start the band?

Chris started writing the album in 2008 then recruited Fabio from an underground Brazilian black market ring dealing in vocalists that sound like Max Cavalera. He put the vocals on the album then we went hunting for a drummer and bass player and found former underwear model Elliot Chao and Drummer Tim Mekalick and we started the band.

Sanaz: How is it like to be from New Zealand and try to make it in the bigger market?

If it was ten years ago it would be nearly impossible for us to exist outside NZ without a big record deal. Nowadays things are a lot easier for us. We can start relationships with companies around the world and get our albums marketed and distributed in any country we want, its fucking great. The main thing is to make sure your music is up to the standard of the rest of the world and to keep up with changes happening in the music industry.

Sanaz: I love the mix of music you guys have, it make you want to dance and crush someones head at the same time. How did this whole crazy band start?

Chris has always been into the heavier side of music, But then spent six years living in London soaking up the electronica vibe that was happening at the time. Mash that shit together and you got the essence of Darklight.

Sanaz: What are the influences of Darklight Corporation?

Influences range from Rob Zombie, Rammstien, The Prodigy, Pendulum, Sepultura, Nmemic, Fear Factory, Slipknot. Also a lot of pop music and drumnbass.

Sanaz: How do you think the Metal scene has changed from the 80's? And what kind of effect did it have on bands coming from New Zealand?

Pantera pretty much changed everything. They brought the aggression and power that is today's metal. And the evolution just doesn't stop. There's fucking amazing bands popping up every day around the world that are just taking the genre into the future, and we love that shit. New Zealand is very open to new things and we really soak up new sounds that are happening around the world, and we keep up with the trends and sometimes ahead of them.

Sanaz: Down in a Hole is your latest video, tell me process of making the video.

Well as everybody knows things are done on a budget with indie bands so we have to come up with cheap ways of making videos but they still have to look great. So we use cool environments and good lighting and mates to shoot the footage on their flash cameras then we edit that shit ourselves to save money. That video cost around $800NZ to make and came out looking pretty pro.

Sanaz: How do you describe your fans? Is it a mix of Dance and Metal and if so, how do they get along? I want to know if people get hurt at your shows ;)

The mix of fans we have is pretty surprising. As usual we get the dudes who like to fuck shit up at the shows and we also draw a surprising amount of females for four smelly geezers hahaha, I think its cause they can kinda dance to it. And then there's the fans that go "man i don't usually listen to metal but i really dig your stuff" Mix that audience together and it gets pretty exciting.

Sanaz: Do you guys have any plans on coming to US for a tour?

YES, we were meant to get out there in August last year but the fucking booking agent fucked us over and we had to cancel. Our album is out there and we have distro and marketing so we really got to get there. It would be great to get on a tour supporting a known band to make it worthwhile for us, we are working on it so watch this space.

Sanaz: Where can people buy your Album or songs?

Our debut album is available around the world from all the main download sites and if you want a physical copy you can get it in the US from the Walmarts, Kmarts etc

Sanaz: What's the plan for you guys in 2011, are we in for a surprise?

Our new album will be finished next month and we have just signed a six month promo deal with Metal Revelation in Europe to boost our profile there and get the new album released. And we will be looking to do the same in the US with the new album so it will be an exciting year for us.

Sanaz: For people who are going to be traveling to New Zealand, what clubs and bars do you recommend for a great time?

If your in Auckland and you want to see some great live bands The Kings Arms is always a go. Wellington its The San Fransisco Bath house for live music or you can always find a pub where someone wants a fight and a kick in the teeth hahahahahaha.

Thanks so much guys! We will be looking forward to this year and what you got for us !
